Week 5 Results

There was no suspense. There was no tension. And for the Houston Asterisks, there was no chance.

At this point it’s only a matter of giving out the final score. The Asterisks’s pitching started off poorly and went to the point where it benefited them to not pitch Roy Halladay again on Sunday as he got -14 points. The end result was a Miami Carlins victory by the score 364-205. This is the most points scored by the Carlins this season. 14 home runs in one week will help put up that many points.

The Player of the Week goes to Carlos Gomez who put up 32 points and led the way for the offense. Enemy of the Week goes Asterisks pitcher Tim Hudson who totaled 50 points in his two starts which ended up being nearly 1/4th of the points the entire team put up on the scoreboard. Disappointment of the Week goes to Matt Moore. Moore had his first poor outing of the season, ending the week with only 1 point contributed to the statistics.

Following this large victory, the Carlins are now the top scoring team in the league, ultimately placing them in first place. I find it strange that the two undefeated teams in the league are the highest scoring and have the lowest points against. Over time things should even out, but right now that seems very skewed.

Now for some scores from around the league:

Team Gold continued their winning streak by ending the streak of Cecil Cantrell with a 285-265 win

Jimmy Dean Vienna Sausages remained undefeated by handily beating Si Hurricanes 247-179

Stone Cold proved they are not a team to be taken lightly after marching all over Team Boyle 356-224

The Fuzzy Taints were the biggest scorers this week and have set the new bar for the most on the season. The match-up between the brothers ended with The Fuzzy Taints taking down Drunkin’ Drafters 380-276

Over in my other league, the Atlanta Slaves continue to rise up against their masters. A 10-5 victory over the last place team helped the team get an even higher lead above everyone. Many of the other above .500 teams suffered losses this week which has essentially put the middle of the pack pretty tight together. Right now though, the Atlanta Slaves have a 9 game lead over a team calling themselves Hole Camels. Oddly enough, we face each other this week. A big win will push them down real far. A big win for them could get them into first place. It’s a tough league to runaway with the lead as you have to be well-rounded and consistent to do it. My team has been more lucky than anything, going up against teams having poor weeks.  Does it matter how it happens as long as it does though?

I prepare this week for the biggest match-up of the season. The Miami Carlins, 5-0, will go up against Jimmy Dean Vienna Sausages, 5-0.

Two men enter, well three because Jimmy Dean Vienna Sausages is run by two guys (not that there’s anything wrong with that), only one man leaves. And yes, only one man will leave because I plan on winning.
